Professor MacIntyre, who was emeritus at the University of Notre Dame, wrote widely and influentialy in ethics and the history of ethics over his long career, which also included tenured teaching posts at Boston University, Duke University, Vanderbilt University, and Brandeis University, among other schools. There is a remembrance here and a link to an account of his own intellectual development here. Comments are open for remembrances from those who knew Professor MacIntyre or for those who would like to comment on the significance of his work.
(Thanks to Rick Garnett for the pointer to the first link.)
UPDATE: Professor MacIntyre came in 9th in this poll of readers about the most important moral philosophers since WWII; I would guess outside academic philosophy, Professor MacIntyre would have come in first.
