Blog readership, a periodic update

Since I began taking summer blogging hiatuses, blog traffic has stabilized at a new norm of roughly 3.1 million unique visits per year (3.2 million last year, as it happens).  (Page views are higher, but unique visits are a more accurate measure of readership, since page views can be artificially inflated by blog design.)  That's an average of about 260,000 visits per month, but the monthly total is lower during the summer hiatus months and higher during the academic year in the Northern Hemisphere.
