As Peter Carruthers pointed out to me, the raw scores for many of the UK departments increased noticeably, and while that had only slight effects on the UK top 15 ordinal listing, it had more noticeable consequences here for several of the programs (e.g., Leeds, Edinburgh, LSE). Some of these programs (Leeds, Edinburgh) have made a lot of appointments, including of some younger faculty who are becoming better-known. Professor Carruthers wondered whether there were more UK evaluators this time around than before, but that does not seem to have been the case.
