Professor Woods, who died on August 15, was an expert in logic (esp. informal logic) and metaphysics, taught philosophy and also held administrative posts at many universities in Canada, including the University of Toronto, the University of Victoria (where he was Head of Department), the University of Calgary (where he was Dean of Humanities), and the University of Lethbridge (where he was President). After his retirement, he taught philosophy regularly at the University of British Columbia.
