This private liberal arts college plans to cut 25% of its faculty! Philosopher James Mahon at Lehman College in NYC tells me that three of its four philosophy faculty will be lost: one tenure-track, and one tenured professor, are being fired, and another tenured professor has opted to take the "voluntary" [sic] redundancy package. There is a petition to support the faculty here, and a GoFundMe page to assist the faculty in seeking legal redress; I think the latter is particularly important given the dire situation. The student newspaper has useful coverage of this bloodbath here and here.
Even in an era in which these stories are becoming increasingly common, this one is really ghastly in its draconian impact.
