Professor Mohanty, who was emeritus at Temple University, wrote widely on Kant and Husserl, as well as on classical Indian philosophy. I will add links to memorial notices as they appear. Jitendra Nath Mohanty (born in 1928 in Orissa, India), emeritus professor of philosophy at Temple University, died on March 8, 2023. Professor Mohanty had a distinguished career, making major contributions to philosophy without borders in the areas of logic, epistemology, and phenomenology, by drawing upon classical Indian traditions as well as modern anglophone and German philosophy, especially the study of Husserl. He was the founding editor of Husserl Studies. Professor Mohanty was past President of the Society for Asian and Comparative philosophy, past President of the Indian Philosophical Congress, and a Gold Medalist of the Asiatic Society. He was a Life Member of the Indian Academy of Philosophy. He also received the Humboldt Prize from the German government in honor of his scholarly work.
The funeral will be held on Friday, March 10 at Shaeffer-Meyers, 145 Tennis Avenue, Ambler, Pennsylvania 19002. The viewing will be from 10am-12pm. There will be a procession to the crematorium and the cremation will be at 12:30.
