Philosopher Ariane Economos, Director of the School of Humanities at Marymount University in Arlington, VA., writes:
The president of Marymount recently proposed the closure of the following programs: theology & religious studies (BA), philosophy (BA), mathematics (BA), art (BA), history (BA), sociology (BA), English (BA), economics (BA), secondary education (BA), and English and humanities (MA).
While the body that governs curricular revision, Faculty Council, has rejected this proposal, as has our Student Government Association, the President nevertheless plans to disregard our system of governance and bring these closures to our Board of Trustees for approval.
