A French "anthropologist" and "sociologist" of scientific practice, his work was quite influential in the field of "science and technology studies." Latour earned his Ph.D. in "philosophical theology," and his work in science studies has had some influence in philosophy of science, although it is mostly discussed critically (see, e.g., Philip Kitcher's The Advancement of Science [1993]).
