My friend and former colleague, the philosopher A.P. Martinich (Texas), called to my attention that Professor Seung, who taught at Texas for nearly fifty years, passed away in February. There is a memorial notice (and other information) here.
I knew "Tom" Seung, but not as well as some others. He was sui generis, both in the breadth of his philosophical and literary interests and his personal style. When animated in a philosophical discussion, he would often slap the leg or arm of the person he was talking to! There was no hostility in the gesture, it was like a physical punctuation point. Al Martinich's recollection gives a nice sense of the person Tom was.
