John Bengson (epistemology, philosophy of mind and action, metaethics, metaphilosophy) and Anat Shechtman (early modern philosophy, metaphaysics), both Associate Professors of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, have accepted tenured appointments as Associate Professors at the University of Texas at Austin. They will both be in residence this fall (after Humboldt Fellowships in Berlin), although Bengson's appointment technically started this month. (These hires are independent of the on-going search in history of philosophy this year.)
Texas has been on a lateral hiring spree the last couple of years, including Julia Driver and Roy Sorensen from Washington University in St. Louis, Connie Rosait from Arizona, Karl Schafer from UC Irvine, and Miriam Schoenfield from MIT. I would think these latest hires clearly push the department into the U.S. top 15.
