A full breakdown here: the Greens and the Social Democrats both saw significant increases in their share of the vote, while the crypto-fascist AfD lost ground. Some of the gains for the Greens probably came from losses for The Left, the democratic socialist party. The Greens are not as progressive, but the Greens, thanks to their electoral gains, will have more impact this time around than either they or The Left had in the previous parliament. Or so it looks to me, an outsider to German politics! (Merkel's Christian Democrats are somewhat more conservative than the Social Democrats, but one should not look at German politics through an American lens: most Christian Democrrats wouldn't be welcome in today's Republican Party in the U.S.)
