MOVING TO FRONT--IMPORTANT UPDATES!
30% of the faculty is being cut (including 16 tenured professors), and nearly half the majors, everything from philosophy to chemistry and political science. Guilford alums, students and faculty are fighting back.
ADDENDUM: COVID and oppportunistic cuts? While the humanities do get hit disproportionately, the Guilford case illustrates how widely such moves can reach. (Thanks to Steven Hales for the pointer.)
UPDATE: In fact, the trustees of Guilford rejected the recommendations of the then-President, so philosophy and other majors have been saved! The current Interim President writes about the situation here. Philosophy alumni from the college also prepared this nice video in support of the Department!
