MOVING TO FRONT FROM FRIDAY EVENING--FOR THOSE WHO MAY HAVE MISSED IT
Philosopher John Leslie (emeritus, Guelph) writes about a chess variant that he designed:
It tries to capture the spirit of Shogi, the great Japanese chess game in which men change sides when captured. Instead I make captives into “hostages” which are exchanged. The variant is therefore called “Hostage Chess”. Larry Kaufman, a western-chess Grandmaster, and for decades the strongest western player of Shogi, judges it “the most interesting, exciting variant that can be played with a standard chess set”.
Enjoy your "Hostage Chess"!
