I only just learned that the philosopher of science Joseph Sneed, a longtime member of the faculty at the Colorado School of Mines, passed away earlier this year. Philosopher Franz-Peter Griesmaier (Wyoming), who called this to my attention, noted that Professor Sneed was "largely responsible for a particular form of scientific structuralism, which applies the Bourbaki-model from mathematics for an analysis of the structure of theories.....He was one of my teachers when I was in the MA program at CU Boulder. He was an amazing teacher and an absolutely terrific person. His work has received much more attention in Europe, especially in Germany, than in the US, which is unfortunate."
