What's happening in Italy is very frightening. As noted on an earlier thread, the problem there is due in part to the age of the population: Italy's population skews older, and we know age (along with hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes) are major predictors of serious illness with this virus. 21.69% of the Italian population is over 65 (compared to 14.55% over 65 in South Korea and 16.03% over 65 in the U.S.), and nearly 35% of the population is over the age of 55 in Italy (compared to 29.5% in South Korea and 29% in the U.S.). But if the U.S. doesn't want to end up like Northern Italy, now is the time to start acting like South Korea and Singapore!
