This is bad news, I fear: although many U.S. courts of appeals have applied the law to discrimination against gay and transgender employees, I strongly suspect this now very conservative Supreme Court will hold that Title VII does not cover either. That means Congress will have to pass, and the President sign, similar employment discrimination legislation covering sexual orientation and transgender status, which won't happen without a significant change in the Senate and the Executive. Many states may step into the breach with state laws, but of course equally many or more states will not.
