Paul Robeson: "it is hard to find anyone under fifty who has the slightest idea who he is, or what he was"

If that's you, then do read this (and even if you do know the great Paul Robeson, you'll still enjoy the essay).  And here he is singing for the workers building the Sydney Opera House:

And here's Robeson's brilliant testimony before the fascists on the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1956.

UPDATE:  Philosopher Robin Jeshion (USC) points out to me that the latter is actually the actor James Earl Jones portraying Robeson.  A great performance!
