Reader Ellen Nelson kindly calls my attention to this effort to protest Trump's choice of Stephen Bannon to be his "chief strategist" in the White House. Bannon is a creepy and nasty piece of work, but most pertinent here is that he turned the Breitbart "news" operation into a hotbed of racism and anti-Semitism. (The Anti-Defamation League has even denounced the choice of Bannon, which given their connections with the Republican establishment should be significant.) The crucial thing right now is to contact--not just by e-mail, but also by phone and fax, as many Republican Senators and Representatives as possible, particularly party leaders whether or not they are your representatives (though even better if they are). The message should be short and simple: "Stephen Bannon's work with Breitbart.com, notorious for its racism and anti-Semitism, makes him unfit to serve in the White House and is inconsistent with the values of the Republican Party."
Here is contact information for U.S. Senators. And here is the information for members of the House of Representatives. You can also reach out to them on twitter (hence #StopBannon). But it's important to call, e-mail and, if possible, fax.
Only Republicans will really be able to stop this, though I expect the Democrats to get on this as well. But it's the Republican leaders who need to hear the message loud and clear.
UPDATE: Here's a useful portrait of Stephen Bannon's work.
