Thomas Johansen, Professor of Ancient Philosophy at Oxford University, has accepted a senior offer at the University of Oslo, where he will start April 1, 2016. With Terence Irwin running up against mandatory retirement shortly, and with Christopher Shields leaving for Notre Dame, and Jessica Moss for NYU, both in the last couple of years, ancient philosophy at Oxford is in transition.
UPDATE: Prof. Johansen writes to note "that Oslo will now have an unusual concentration of expertise in ancient philosophy. There’ll be five of us: Panos Dimas, Eyjolfur Emilsson, Øyvind Rabbås, Franco Trivigno and myself. In addition to our PhD program we are instituting a new Masters in Ancient Philosophy." This will certainly make Oslo a major center for scholarship in ancient philosophy in Europe.
