An untenured philosopher writes:
I have recently had a paper rejected from one of the most respected journals in my sub-field. Given the prestige of this journal, I am obviously keen to be published there. I am currently working on a different paper that falls within the journal's scope, and that ideally I would like to be considered there. However, I am guessing that it is too soon to send another piece to the same journal for consideration after having just had a paper refereed and rejected. But I'm not sure when would be an appropriate time to approach the journal again with a new piece. So my question is to editors of journals: how soon after rejection of one paper would it be acceptable to submit a new piece for consideration to the same journal? Anecdotally, I have heard that one should submit no more than one paper per year to any given journal--is that advice right?
Readers: thoughts? Is there a general norm at work here? Does it vary by journal or sub-field?
