A few items:
1. Several longtime members of the Advisory Board have decided to retire after years of very valuable service. My sincere thanks to Julia Annas (University of Arizona), John Etchemendy (Stanford University), Sebastian Gardner (University College London), and Patrick Maynard (University of Western Ontario) for their many contributions.
2. I am very pleased to report that several distinguished philosophers have agreed to join the Advisory Board. They are: Rachel Barney (University of Toronto), Samanthan Brennan (University of Western Ontario), David Davies (McGill University), Peter Poellner (University of Warwick), and Greg Restall (University of Melbourne).
3. The Advisory Board voted to add "Philosophy of Race" to the specialty areas to be evaluated for the 2011-12 PGR.
4. The Advisory Board voted against (by a small margin) adding "Experimental Philosophy" to the specialty rankings at this point in time. Opposition centered mainly around two issues: first, unclarity about the boundaries of the category; and second, concern that XPhil represents a 'methodology,' rather than an area, unlike most (maybe all) existing specialty areas. I expect we will take up the issue again in a few years.
5. The surveys will begin in late September and run through the middle of October. I hope the new PGR will be on-line by early December at the latest.
