Recidivism
The past is my present I soak in it
Bathing my aging body which softens mellows
At some point yesterday outruns tomorrow
Leads the way forward by calling up
The million recollections of a life
It reassures powerfully gives me not courage
But the confidence of having been time and again
Alive and aglow alert to stimuli that call me still
Keeping me from the emptiness that
Outwits life and snubs its nose at death
Living like this has its own excitement
For curiosity about what was
Is as revelatory as what is
The old is new age is reversed
Discovery is not only tomorrow’s toy
Once I was a man
Now I am a boy
