In the midst of a catastrophically bad job market, this conduct is really hard to believe. From Edouard Machery (Pittsburgh, HPS):
The HPS department requested the APA to include an ad for a new tenure- stream position (philosophy of cognitive neuroscience, philosophy of physics, or methodology) in the HPS department at the University of Pittsburgh. It turns out that for some reason the credit card number we gave the APA did not work. Instead of calling my department, the job placement service of the APA just decided to ignore the ad, which, as a result, did not make it to the October issue of Jobs for Philosophers! Perhaps they thought that there are too many available jobs out there!
Well, at least there is one more. But what's alarming here is the process. Surely the APA should follow-up with a department in a situation like this.
