Without the Children
The night is a wonder
The children are fair
The trees loom splendid
The stars so near
The leaves are dancing
The children are there
The moonlight's whiskers
Prickle their hair
The night is appalling
The sky is bare
The woods stand glaring
At the children there
The moon is hiding
Oh where oh where
The children ride
A scarlet bier
The earth is turning
The fields flare
The children drop
From out the air
The ground is heaving
The rocks just stare
There is no sign
Of children there
The grass is burning
The clouds are stark
The day is turning
From light to dark
The dawn lies buried
The end is near
Without the children
Who will care
The world failing
Nothing fair
The dead's keening
Too much to bear
