I wonder whether you might invite readers to share significant threats to philosophy departments -- beyond the ordinary hiring freezes, etc. -- arising out of administrative attempts to meet looming budget cuts. I can report that here at the University of Tennessee the Dean of Arts and Sciences has announced his intention to merge the departments of philosophy and religious studies. It is not yet clear what this means for the graduate program in philosophy at Tennessee. Are other departments or programs facing similarly serious threats?
