You won't hear much from me over the next two weeks, as (in addition to everything else!) I'm now in the throes of processing the PGR data. More than 260 philosophers completed the "overall" evaluations, and (though the numbers aren't tallied yet) it appears that perhaps 300 completed at least some portion of the surveys. So there are a lot of numbers to crunch, transcribe, and put into the new PGR, as well as negotiations with the Advisory Board over how to place faculties that weren't in the survey but might otherwise be strong in various specialties. I will try to post a couple of tidbits from the new PGR, as a prelude to the formal release of the new Report in early November. Here, as a start, are the biggest upward movers in the "overall" survey from 2004:
U.S. Faculties Up at least 8 spots (many of these are ties with other departments)
University of Southern California from 24th to 16th
Yale University from 24th to 16th
University of Miami from 44th to 32nd
Johns Hopkins University from 44th to 35th
U.K. Faculties Up at least 2 spots (many of these are ties with other departments)
Birkbeck College, University of London from 6th to 4th
University of Bristol from 14th to 9th
University of Edinburgh from 11th to 9th
University of Leeds from 11th to 9th
University of Nottingham from 13th to 9th
There were less notable changes in Australasia and Canada, though there were some shifts there as well.
Some more PGR data later this week or early next week...
