It appears that at least one person is willing to tell the truth about the 'progress' we have made in Iraq--namely,the Army chief of staff Gen. Peter J. Schoomaker. In response to questions at a recent White House press conference, Shoomaker gave the following unusually candid response to questions about how we're doing in Iraq (see here for more details):
The challenge...is becoming more complex, and it's going to continue to be...that's why I'll tell you I think we're closer to the beginning than we are to the end of all this.
Mission accomplished indeed. It would have been nice if Shoomaker had ventured to say something concerning when in the foreseeable future he feels the situation over there won't continue to become increasingly "more complex"--especially in light of what Israel is currently doing to destabilize the region (see here).
