In the event that you were as surprised as I was by the news two days ago that the Bush administration caved in to the Supreme Court's ruling in Hamdan by allowing that detainees from the never ending 'war' on terror would henceforth be granted protection under Article 3 of the Geneva Convention (see here), the subsequent Bushie back-peddling should wipe that surprised look off your face (see here). After having reconsidered the cost of due process, the rule of law, and other inconvenient moral and legal principles, they decided it wasn't worth it after all. Now if Congress will only roll over once again on cue, we should be back to violating international law in no time flat--once again becoming a beacon of darkness for all the world to hate. And to think you foolishly thought for even a second that W and Co. might cower in the presence of those damned robed defenders of law and democracy. Silly you. He's a cowboy from Yale and Harvard remember. He don't put up with no bull--not from activist judges and definitely not from grammarians.
