Emancipators' Day (Edmundson)

Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln were born 197 years ago today.  An appreciation appeared in this morning's LA Times (Feb. 12).  "Lincoln, as every schoolchild knows, freed the slaves. Darwin, as every creationist resists, freed our minds," writes David Barash (Psychology, U. of Washington).  Yesterday, the LA Times profiled an Australian ex-pat evangelist who--though he may not know much about natural history--could foreshadow the shape of elementary science education to come.  ("Excuse me, have you ever seen an electron?")
