The suddenly unbubbled Bush comes up a-bubblin' "Un-crude!" In the course of (yet another) surprise interview--this one on Air Force One, and as reported by The Associated Press (Feb. 2)--the President expanded on his State-of-the-Union "Must End Oil Addiction" theme:
"I believe in a relatively quick period of time, within my lifetime, we'll be able to reduce if not end dependence on Middle Eastern oil by this new technology" of converting corn, wood, grasses and other products into ethanol, he said.
Substance? "There's a lot of nourishment in an acre of corn," as William Faulkner quipped, when asked how he maintained his health
without eating. Meanwhile, Bush spokespeople are busily explaining that petroleum is one addiction that this administration has no intention of weaning us of. Analysis here.
