I've seen a few other sites do this, and the results are interesting. You folks know who I am, and I know who some of you are from correspondence over the past two years. But I'd be grateful if other readers might post a comment about themselves--no need to post your name, though you're welcome to do so, but perhaps just something descriptive (e.g., philosophy grad student at Berkeley, law professor in the Northeast, sociology professor at liberal arts college, attorney in UK, right-wing crank who likes to be aggravated, Bush-hating librarian in Florida, etc.) and maybe a word about what you are mostly interested in when you visit this blog. Thanks...and bear in mind that comments may take a while to appear.
UPDATE: Many thanks to the 15 readers who have so far posted informative and generous comments in roughly the last two hours. (The original post appeared around 3 pm London time, 9 am Austin time.) I know from the WebStat counter though that they represent only about 10% of returning visitors to the site during that time! (Of course, some of those visitors will have arrived at a particular posting directly, and so may not have seen this message.) Please don't be bashful, and please take a moment to post a bit about yourself. I've already learned useful things from the comments so far, and would welcome hearing from more of you.
AND ANOTHER: I also invite those I've corresponded with to post too; I suspect some other readers would be interested to know who else is reading.
