Instant Lottery
To begin the day’s long squander
She visits the lottery counter
And buys a moment’s wonder
Scratching the candied colors
Her instant gloss of loss
Perhaps another hour
There’ll be manna as nirvana
But now the dark clouds glower
And cloak this fading flower
In longing’s hungry power
Oh tomorrow tomorrow
Lift the pennies of her sorrow
From the clutter of her brow
And shower her with brightness
Deliver her from now
