The Department of Philosophy at Princeton University has voted an offer to Alex Byrne (philosophy of mind, metaphysics, philosophy of language) at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology. Princeton succeeded this past year in reruiting Michael Fara and Delia Graff from Cornell University, top young philosophers who, like Byrne, work in some of the central areas of contemporary philosophy. Meanwhile, two faculty in the small MIT Department are now being recruited by other leading departments: in addition to Byrne, Joshua Cohen (political philosophy) has an offer from Stanford.
