U.S. readers will be familiar with the latest antics by the far right that runs the country, involving the unprecedented Congressional involvement in the case of a severely, brain-damaged woman on life support in Florida ("the Schiavo case"). The criminal and immoral war monger George W. Bush took a break from his latest vacation to fly back to Washington, D.C. to sign federal legislation related to the case and affirm a "culture of life." Yes, that was the phrase used in such putatively "liberal" publications like The New York Times. Fortunately, someone has already made the necessary and apt comments about the "culture of life" supported by the Republicans and Bush. Share it with your friends.
"Anywhere out of this world," said Baudelaire.
UPDATE: Encouraging poll results (via Jason Walta):
The public, by 63 percent-28 percent, supports the removal of Schiavo's feeding tube, and by a 25-point margin opposes a law mandating federal review of her case. Congress passed such legislation and President Bush signed it early today.
That legislative action is distinctly unpopular: Not only do 60 percent oppose it, more -- 70 percent -- call it inappropriate for Congress to get involved in this way. And by a lopsided 67 percent-19 percent, most think the elected officials trying to keep Schiavo alive are doing so more for political advantage than out of concern for her or for the principles involved.
