...I note the following blog milestone yesterday: namely, over 3,000 visits in a single day, without the benefit of some prominent right-wing dope having linked to me (in order to attack me for not treating their preferred shibboleths respectfully etc. etc.). 72% of visitors yesterday had been here before (the number, I'm sure, is higher, since students especially tend to log on from different computers at their universities), which is typical most days. I have no idea what this all means, except that I am apparently doing more than my share to decrease workplace productivity in academia.
UPDATE: One philosophy reader suggests that what this may mean is that lots of folks are waiting anxiously for the new Philosophical Gourmet Report. In case that's right, here's an update: the Report for 2004-06 will be delivered to Blackwell in the next couple of days, and will be on line (at the same site as the current report) not later than November 15, and hopefully a bit before that. 266 philosophers participated in the surveys, nearly a 50% increase from 2002.
