Last year, respected and prolific constitutional law scholar Erwin Chemerinsky and employment law expert Catherine Fisk turned down offers from Duke University's School of Law after the University of Southern California, where Chemerinsky has taught for two decades, hired Fisk (Chemerinsky's spouse) from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. Now Duke has reextended the offer, and Chemerinsky and Fisk have accepted, to start this coming fall. That's a blow for USC, where Chemerinsky is certainly one of the three or four best-known members of the faculty, and a good break for Duke, which recently learned it was losing its most distinguished faculty member, William van Alstyne, also a constitutional law scholar, to William & Mary.
