MOVING TO THE FRONT FROM YESTERDAY: SEE UPDATE
Oxford University has announced that Terence Irwin, a leading scholar of ancient philosophy and longtime member of the philosophy faculty at Cornell University, has accepted appointment (effective January 1, 2007) as Professor of Ancient Philosophy, succeeding Michael Frede. There has been no announcement to date about a post at Oxford for his wife, Gail Fine, also a distinguished scholar of ancient philosophy at Cornell. I will post more details when they are available.
UPDATE: Weatherson clarifies the situation, after receiving some rather rude comments in his thread about Cornell's hiring successes this year. Professor Fine declined a post at Oxford, and will remain effectively half-time at Cornell, spending each Spring (on leave) in Oxford.
