Seeking Restaurant Recommendations in London
Permit me to impose, yet again, on the knowledge of my cosmpolitan readers. We are living near the intersection of Baker St. & Marylebone, and would be grateful for restaurant recommendations (all cuisines) of places that might be within modest walking distance. Either e-mail me or post comments here (though bear in mind that there may be a delay between when you submit the comment and when it appears). Good places in or around UCL and Birkbeck would also be welcome.
Many thanks, as always.

For excellent Punjabi cuisine that even a student could (occasionally) afford go to Punjab Indian Restaurant in Covent Garden. Probably a 10-15 min walk from ULC or Birkbeck, or easy access from Coven Garden tube station. The address is 80 Neal Street, London, WC2H 9PA
Telephone 020 7836 9787. Here's the map: http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/mapping/map.php?pc=WC2H+9PA
It was one of the first Indian Restautants in London and if I could I would have a meal there every day.

For restaurants around UCL (in Bloomsbury), see: http://www.london-eating.co.uk/boroughs/central/bloomsbury.asp
On the expensive end, check out: Pied a Terre (Charlotte Street). On the cheaper end, check out: Busaba Eathai (Bird Street)

I was an undergraduate at King's College London and a restaurant I keep coming back to, whenever I visit London, is Wagamama, which is a Japanese noodle bar.

There is a lovely Chinese restaurant a short jump and a skip away, a couple blocks from the Marylebone Tube. (That said, Chinatown is a must visit part of town.)
You'll need a cab, but I particularly recommend Nikita's---a Russian restaurant w/great music, food, and (of course) vodka.
Best Indian? I forget the name, but the only Indian restaurant on St Katharine's Dock (where I used to live) and next to the Dicken's Inn. The Dock is next to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.
Hope this helps!

For the best dim sum in london...go to bayswater - royal china serves the best dim sum in town. If you are going during the weekends be sure to go there when they open. Otherwise, you would have to wait for two hours. Also, Four Seasons restaurant serves the best roast duck in London. The seafood tofu is also quite yummy. Again, this place is really crowded so go early and be prepared to wait. Oh and Belgos (a Belgium restaurant) in Covent Garden has a wide selection of beers and good food. The chocolate cheesecake is really good.

I forgot to mention there is a branch of Royal China at Baker's Street.

Diwanas on Drummond St (behind Euston Stn) is good value South Indian (completely different from normal Indian) cuisine. There are other establishment serving similar food in the same street too.

I would recommend buying one of the "Hardens" guides to restaurants in London, they are excellent and the one on "good cheap eats" represents excellent value for money.
My personal favourites are Salt Yard (modern tapas) on Goodge St. and Moro (excellent Moorish restaurant) a little further away (34-36 Exmouth mkt in Clerkenwell).

Edgware Road is the place to go for Arab food, although my personal favourite along that road is Mawar, the Malay restaurant. It's on the corner with Sussex Gardens, on the north side, underneath a car park.

If you ever find yourself on an anti-war demo (or similar event) ending up in Trafalgar Square, do try the crypt underneath St Martin-in-the-Fields church (don't worry, you don't have to be religious to eat there!). Entrance is down some steps from the road on the right-hand side of the church (looking from Trafalgar Square).
Very good quality home cooking, fairly cheap, cafeteria-style service, good atmosphere (tends to attract "liberal" types). If you like music, check out the concerts they put on upstairs.
