Philosopher Hintikka Wins Schock Prize in "Logic and Philosophy" from Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences

Jaakko Hintikka at Boston University is the 2005 winner of the Schock Prize for "Logic and Philosophy" given by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (the same folks who award, of course, the Nobel Prizes in the sciences).  Past winners are Michael Dummett (emeritus Wykeham Professor of Logic at Oxford), Solomon Feferman (Stanford), Saul Kripke (CUNY Grad Center & emeritus, Princeton), W.V.O. Quine (late of Harvard), John Rawls (late of Harvard), and Dana Scott (Carnegie-Mellon).

Of local interest will be the fact that Luis Cafferelli, here at UT Austin, won the Schock Prize this year in Mathematics
